Penal law states that “no one is supposed to ignore the law”, but there is a world of difference
between this principle and reality. That’s why Mesures Alternatives des Vallées du Nord established
a 75-minute interactive workshop for sharing information and raising awareness among Grade 6 and Secondary 1 students. The workshop aims to give adolescents a better understanding of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, as well as address their rights and responsibilities. Students are made aware
of their role as a citizen and their responsibility to themselves, the victim and the community in the
event of a criminal act.

With the help of a PowerPoint presentation and a fun quiz featuring various question categories, the workshop highlights the issues of sharing responsibility with others and taking positive action. It leads youth to reflect further on their own role and to consider contemporary problems such as bullying and cybercrime in a new light.
